The Hakbong Award was established to honor the late Hakbong Lee Ki-hak, a Zainichi Korean businessman in Japan. Hosted by the Seoul National University School of Law, supported by the Hakbong Scholarship Foundation, and organized in cooperation with the Institute for Japanese Studies (IJS) at Seoul National University (SNU), the award recognizes achievements in the categories of research articles, legal scholarship, and press reporting.
Since 2021, the press reporting category of the Hakbong Award has been granted to journalists and media reports that have contributed to improving Korea–Japan relations and promoting mutual understanding. In this regard, the Institute for Japanese Studies will hold a commemorative lecture featuring the three teams selected as the 2025 award recipients. We invite you to join us in learning more about the efforts and experiences of journalists working toward better Korea–Japan relations, and in reflecting together on desirable directions for the future development of two countries' relations.
