Thirty years have passed since the end of the Cold War and globalization, and the "region" is in the midst of a drastic change in redistricting. Accordingly, the knowledge system that looks at the "region," that is, the content and method of "regional research," is being newly constructed across boundaries.The era of "post-regional research" is now opening. Meanwhile, Seoul National University's Institute for Japanese Studies, which celebrated its 20th anniversary, invited experts from the front lines of each field to prepare seven lecture series to explore the future of Japan and the future of Japanese research.
As the fourth lecture, we will invite Professor Ijichi of Osaka Metropolitan University to give a lecture as follows. We look forward to your participation.

Title：The Past and Future of Studies On Zainichi Korean

Summary：
Currently, the nationality and roots of residents living in Japan are diversifying. Despite the fact that there are expressions of "Chinese resident in Japan" (Zainichi Chuugokujin) and "Vietnamese resident in Japan (Zainichi Betonamujin)," "Zainichi" in single term mainly signifies "Korean resident in Japan." In modern and contemporary Japanese history, studies on Zainichi Korean in Japan have become more diverse in various fields along with the characteristics of each period, and the number of researchers outside Japan is increasing. In recent years, the term "Zainichi" in English journals and international academic societies has become a term used to refer to Koreans living in Japan.Then, who does "Korean resident in Japan" refer to?The number of candidates for the prescribed conditions has increased over time, including nationality, permanent address, residence history, status of residence, and identity. For example, not only those who came to Japan before the Korean Liberation, but also those who returned to Japan after the Liberation or who came to Japan after marriage are becoming targets. In this presentation, I will examine the future prospects based on the current situation of Zainichi Korean society in Japan, which is becoming more diverse, while looking at these changes in studies on Zainichi Korean in Japan.
