On July 15, 2020 (Wednesday), the Institute for Japanese Studies (IJS) and the Institute of International Affairs (IIA) at Seoul National University invited H.E. Tomita Koji, Japanese Ambassador to Korea, to co-host a round-table conference for ‘Japan-ROK Relations in the Changing World.’ Ambassador Tomita emphasized the importance of diplomatic and civilian efforts, addressing the bilateral and multilateral cooperation cases between the two countries, while the COVID-19 crisis continues. In addition, after sharing the perception that the ROK-Japan relationship is in difficult period after South Korea’s Supreme Court ruling over the issue of forced labor, they also discussed ways to cope with changes in the regional security system centered around the United States and  changes on the Korean Peninsula. This round-table conference was held unofficially with Seoul National University faculty staff members.
