On March 26, 2024, the 2nd "Future of Japan in the Era of Post-Regional Studies, Future of Japan's Studies" X Japan Specialist Seminar was held in a hybrid on format. Fujita Naoya (Assistant Professor, Department of Film, Japan Institute of the Moving Image, gave a presentation under the theme of "Desire to Return to the 80's - Regarding the Misogyny Phenomenon of the Internet in Modern Japan " The presentation is as follows.

The presenter first explained the relationship between misogyny and subculture. In addition, the examples of misogyny online in Japan are "the theory of weak men" and "the freedom fighter of expression" as examples. The composition of the ideology of QAnon, Incel, and Alt-Right in the United States as well as Japan was mentioned. In particular, men who have lost their place as men following the stagnation of the economy in Japan were visualized, suggesting whether these men were satisfied with the patriarchal desire to "own" animated characters.

After the presentation, questions and answers were followed. The seminar concluded after discussions on the narrative of "the weak man", the difference between the male and female otaku, and the actual differences between the reality of the 80s and the 80s that the weak man imagined.
