On May 31, 2024, the 42nd Japan Diagnosis Seminar was held in a hybrid format at the GL Room of the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University. In this seminar, author LI Kotomi delivered a presentation titled "Journey of Death and Rebirth: The Fiction of LI Kotomi (李琴峰)." LI Kotomi, a Taiwanese national, made her debut in 2017 writing novels in Japanese, a language she learned as a second foreign language. Since then, she has consistently written works addressing issues of language, nationality, history, identity, gender, and LGBTQ+ themes, making her a leading figure in contemporary Japanese literature. In her presentation, LI Kotomi reflected on her creative journey, explained her literary world, and discussed the history and current status of the LGBTQ+ rights movement in Japan.
