Discussion
Li Kotomi (李琴峰) is a Taiwanese writer who learned Japanese as a second language and debuted by writing a novel in Japanese. Since her debut in 2017, she has been one of the leading literary figures who has consistently updated Japanese literature with works that address issues related to language, nationality, history, identity, gender, and LGBTQ+. The work was evaluated, and in 2021, she received the Rookie of the Year Award from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Tourism for his novel 『ポ ラリスが降り注ぐ夜 (Night when Polaris pours in)』, and 『彼岸花 が 咲く島 (Island where Pian flowers bloom) 』won the Akutagawa Award. In this lecture, we will look back on Li Kotomi's own creative history and unravel the world of her works. In addition, we plan to discuss the history of LGBTQ+ people in Japan and the current status of the human rights restoration movement.
