Summary
The academic conference titled "Rethinking Postwar Thoughts from the 'Sea'," jointly hosted by SNU-IJS and The Association of Japanology in East Asia, was successfully held on May 24th (Friday) at the GL Room, SNU GSIS.
In the first session, moderated by Professor NAM Hwijeong (Sungshin Women's University), Professor KAJIO Fumitake (Kobe University) presented on "Inoue Mitsuharu's Questions on 'Borders'," and Professor CHO Soo-il (Hallym University) delivered a presentation titled "The Stagnant 'Postwar' and the Sea as the Latent State of Memory: Focusing on Kim Seok-beom’s 'Under the Sea'." The discussion was led by Professor LEE Seungjun (Sejong University).
The second session, moderated by Professor KIM Wook (Seoul National University), featured Professor HIROSE Yoichi (Osaka Public University) presenting on "Nakano Shigeharu's Struggle in Post-war Japan: Based on Intellectual Exchanges with Kim Dal-su," and Professor SEO Dong Ju (SNU) speaking on "From the Sea of Empire to the Sea of Cold War: Focusing on Representations of the 'Hyunhae-tan' during the Korean War." The discussion was led by Professor KIM Taekyung (Kyung Hee University).
After the presentations in both sessions concluded, a comprehensive discussion moderated by Professor SEO Dong Ju (SNU) took place. The discussion featured enthusiastic debates and Q&A sessions among the participants, including Professor JUNG Shinhyeok (Seoul National University), Professor SHIM Hee-chan (Yonsei University), and Professor BAE Sang-mi (Korea University).
